Welcome back to school!

We are going to have a fantastic year as we swim into grade two. Everyone should be well-rested after the 2 month break.
We will start teaching from Monday and I hope that all the students will be able to attend the first class, so that they know what is expected of them. As you may or may not know, many of the students will move from Teacher Henry’s class to mine, so they will need about a week or two, to adjust to my style of teaching, particularly the Reading Street classes.
This semester the workload gets a bit harder and the students will really have to start concentrating on being the best that they can be. As the faces and personalities of my students differ, so do my expectations for each of them.

Some students are still struggling with speaking out loud and answering the questions in class, some of them may still have some problems sounding out the words and reading fluently. We will be working on individual goals for each student and trust that we will have your support as well.
Summer Reading Homework
Many of the parents and students are wondering where the answers are J
1. I scanned the first reading homework PDF and you can download and check the answers.
2. The second one we will do in class as my printer/scanner has gone on strike!

Homework for Grade 2 consists of the following:
1. Reading Street Worksheets
2. Writing and memorizing the production words, 3-4 a day. Please note that I will be asking the students to write the Chinese meaning of the word as well (once-to be checked by SelinaJ)
3. Completing incomplete work
4. Reviewing the vocabulary and sentences as well as listening to the Picture Dictionary CD.
5. Miscellaneous- that might include gathering of pictures and coloring for SHOW and TELLJ

This will be posted on the blog once a week.
Students are also welcome to visit the blog to review what we are doing in class by visiting the page assigned to the Reading Street Story.

Tools for School

Please make sure that your child has the basic tool kit for school by the end of the first week. Examples below.
1. Pencils
2. Color pencils (set of 12 colors)
3. Eraser
4. A pair of scissors
5. White glue
6. Ruler
7. Sharpener

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me or Teacher Lin. If it is a serious problem, please set up an appointment, so that we will have enough time to talk about it.

Partners in Education,
Carmen Pedro
