April 1st

We are almost halfway through the semester and we have come a long way! We are completing Unit 1 in Reading Street and will move onto Unit 2. In Unit 2, the main focus will be on Cause and Effect as well as Predicting what will happen next. The underlying theme of each story is Community. The students will read about people in their homes, school communities and neighborhoods. We will also look at communities in nature! We will be taking a HUGE step as we move away from fantasy- based stories and focus more on nonfiction and expository texts that deal with real people, real events and facts.
Who are the people in your neighborhood?

Looking forward to a very productive month,
Carmen

March 15th – March 28th

Bilingual Class: Grade 1

The past few weeks have been especially busy. We've simulated emergency earthquake drills and most of the children know what to do if we have an earthquake. Those who don't know will be helped by their peers :)
We have had quite an interesting time learning about animals, their babies and how they help us.
In our phonics classes we have focused on blending letters together and listening to the various sounds they make- helping us to be better listeners and spellers.
In our writing class we have looked at various objects as well as animals and tried to describe what they look like.
Our unpredictable spring weather made it difficult for us to go to Daan park as planned but we will find another day to do so.

Below are the test dates as dictated by the school.
