Happy Mother’s Day
Not what you expected, was it? As we will all be quite
busy tomorrow, I’d like to take this time to wish all the mommies a very happy
mother’s day, with kisses and foot massages to breakfast in bed J
We are moving into the
last stretch of this semester and our Reading Street focus is on community. We
started with “A Big Fish for Max’ and will continue with ‘The Farmer in the Hat’.
The children will find out that sometimes we argue about who wants what and we
can’t always get what we want. We will work on helping each other and problem
solving skills in the classroom.
I’ve been working on a
concept for Reading Street, that the kids will be able to use at home. I haven’t been able to embed
the material into the blog for some reason and will provide an external link in
the meantime. This will enable you to access the activities we will do in the
class. The link will be active on Monday afternoon.
On another note, during
the test period we covered a story called “Little Rabbit’. The genre of this
story is the Folk Tale. The children enjoyed this new story as it taught us a
lesson, namely, ‘Look before you run!’
This coming Wednesday we hope to
go to the zoo. This will round off the previous lessons we’ve had on animals in
Reading Street Unit 1. We want to know why animals are extinct, which animals
are endangered and what nature conservation is. We will also try to empathize
with the animals and ask ourselves, what they would say to us, if we could
understand their language. The children will also have a chance to see some
prehistoric animals in the Education Center, our last stop before we go back to
school.
Some questions to
reflect on at the end of the day are,
1. How can we give
animals a voice?
2. Would you like to be
an animal in a zoo? Why or why not?
3. Do you think animals
have feelings? Why or why not?
