Week 9

Good afternoon Parents and Students,
New Story
In our new story called Mole and the Baby Bird, (The Glog is incomplete but you can still use it. Click on the name of the story to go to the link.)Mole finds a baby bird and decides to take care of it. He doesn’t want the baby bird to fly away and makes a cage for it. The baby bird is sad and when Mole’s granddad comes to visit, he shows Mole that birds are meant to fly, not stay underground. Mole makes the correct decision and frees the bird.
The students have the workbook and we’ve covered quite a bit, given that this, too, is a short week. It helps that they can read the story and I'm not teaching them to read but explaining the meaning of some of the words.

We are looking at things in a different way so, we will look at pictures and find clues to help us find the conclusion or ending.
I haven’t been updating the homework page as only a few parents are actually signing the English communication books. I will post this on the Facebook page as well. Maybe we need to reach a consensus, whereby the homework is posted on the Facebook page only.

Outing
We went on an outing to an egg farm yesterday and the level of enthusiasm was high. We saw lots of different types of eggs, from ostrich eggs to snail eggs. We also made a shuttlecock, which some of them probably played with at home. The students behaved themselves pretty well and we didn’t have to shout too much. J

Upcoming tests
On May 6th, 7th and 8th we will respectively write our Vocabulary, Oral and Listening tests as part of our second Monthly Exams.
We’ll be testing;
1. Stories: ‘Tippy Toe Chick Go!’ and ‘Mole and the Baby Bird’.
2. Vocabulary from Weeks 7-10.
3. Phonics: ow, ou, syllables, final syllable –le
4. Basic grammar pronouns and command sentences
5. Word meanings

Please help your child by asking them to review the worksheets at home.
Thank you for your cooperation,
Carmen
