Land Ahoy!

Dear Students and Parents,

This has been a long semester and an extremely short week, and we’ve struggled to get everyone ready for the Final Semester Exam.  Everyone is lethargic, as it is after all, time for hibernating in the animal kingdom. Our kids are tired and so are we. The New Year break is coming at the right time!

However, we still have one more hurdle to cross before we can get to a safe port…

… The Dreaded Exams, Da-da-da!

The Dreaded Exams takes place next week as previously posted and there have been no changes to the schedule or scope.
Please encourage your kids to review for the exams as a few of our students seem to be experiencing a kind of slump in terms of completing their work. It could be that hormones are playing havoc with their systems, so keep your eyes peeled. J

***Below are the dates and scope of the 3rd Monthly Exams:

**My Sidewalks on Reading Street Level C3 (p124-133)
**My Sidewalks on Reading Street Level C4 (p7-55)

I will post the pictures of our trip to The Grand Hotel over the weekend as the files are extremely large.(Files uploaded already!! Click on the name of the hotel) The students behaved as best they could and we didn’t have any food fights!
They had a lot of fun and had a lot to talk about.
I was angry with them for a short period of time after we came back and we had a little fight of our own. I won’t elaborate but you can ask them all about it. J

Stormy Weather!

October 19, 2015
Dear Parents and Students,
This week is an exciting one as we have our Sports Day on Saturday. We are all looking forward to it.
Before we get to Saturday though, we need to get through Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, first!
This week we will complete our experience class on sports- soccer in particular. We designed our own uniforms,(T-shirts) and the students have been very creative in their designs. I will post some pictures of the designs later. I would like to redesign the experience class to include the things that we are learning about in My Sidewalks as we are following the schedule of the previous teacher.
I will let you know how that goes, as I have to speak to some people before I make any changes.
This is the link to the GLOG for ‘A CLOSER LOOK’ Click on the words to take you there. Please note that this is my own personal account and will be updated as I have time. It can be used as a review tool as I use it in my class.

We are looking at tracking weather this week and the page I added is excellent when tracking storms or any weather in particular. We are fortunate or unfortunate (depending on your viewpoint) to be able to track two storms this week. I hope they don’t come our way, though!

Typhoon / Exam update for Grades 3 and 5

 September 29th, 2015
Dear Parents and Students,

As you well know, school has been cancelled today due to the typhoon. The students do have homework and it’s written down in their communication books. If you have electricity, please ask your child to review for at least an hour today. They can click on the links on the right side of this page and use the glogs to review as well.

We have postponed our Review test and will write it on Wednesday morning, September 30th or Thursday October 1st for the latest, depending on the weather situation.

Please stay safe out there,
Carmen Pedro

Red in the morning, sailors warning! Red at night, sailors delight!

Dear Parents and Students,
Our students did very well in Friday’s test and it means that they are either improving OR the test was too easy J
Please remember to sign the test as well as the communication book.

The students have a bit of homework to do this week and it consists mainly of reading and writing corrections. Hopefully they will get to the stage where they become more careful when writing and make fewer mistakes.

This week we take a look at scientists and their jobs. We’ll look at botanists, entomologists, veterinarians, paleontologists and meteorologists! All these scientists do very important jobs that save many lives each year.

We’ll also look at a fable about why owl hunts at night.
Any suggestions regarding visiting a botanical garden to coincide with our lessons are most welcome.

I will post the actual homework for this coming week on Monday afternoon.

Check the link on the right side of the page to access our lessons. Please note that this takes time.

Have a fantastic weekend,
Carmen Pedro

Dear Parents and Students,

I trust you had a wonderful summer. Like all things good or bad, they must end. I will still be at Xinmin Private Elementary School, but will serve as teacher to the Grade 5 class in the new semester. If you want to stop by and chat, please feel free to do so. I will no longer be making glogs for the Reading Street for now but will keep the glogs that are already on here.

Teacher Anthony has been kind enough to provide the answers to the summer reading homework, and you can check them on his blog. Just follow the link.Summer Homework Answers

Remember to start following a more structured bedtime schedule, so that you can be ready for school in two weeks.

See you soon,
Carmen Pedro
